Description

Bocote wood is a thin wooden striking, full of contrasts, the style of zebra skin. Easy to work with a highly polished is achieved without the need for any product or sealant. This wood is very demand for the manufacture of high-end knives .

Distribution: Mexico , Central and South America

Tree Size: 20-30 m in height, trunk diameter 1-1.5

Hardness ( kg/m3) : 1040

Color / Appearance: yellowish-brown with a dramatic dark brown almost black stripes tends to darken over time. In addition, the grain pattern can be dramatic , it is not uncommon to see many "eyes" , although unlike knots , do not present particular difficulties machining .

Grain / Texture: The pattern in most parts, is very decorative, also tends to bind , but often also find sleek and straight grain. Good natural shine.

Resistance: rated moderately durable to very durable depending on the species against putrefaction , is not susceptible to insect attack for its high content of natural oils.

Machinability: Some species may contain silica embozan the blades. In general , working with good results easily. The Bocote has a fairly high amount of natural oils present .

Odor: has a moderate flavor when working resembling dill pickles .

Allergies / Toxicity: has been shown to cause cross-reactions if you have had an allergic sensitivity to other hardwoods such as Pau Ferro , Ebony Macassar, Cocobolo and Rosewood. As always , we recommend that all timber work , mask , for the particles that are suspended when working, especially in a confined environment.

Sustainability: is not included in the Appendices of CITES or the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species IUCN.

Common Uses: knives and high-end furniture, flooring, veneer, boats, musical instruments, and high-end size.
